Iceland
Iceland is such a dynamic country. Both where a hot spot exists and where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge comes onto land, it is a place of geologic wonder. Luckily, during our field course we spent 10 full days touring the country, in a small loop. We flew into Keflavik and boarded a bus (fitting all 27 of us) to start our Study Tour. We arrived at 6:30am after a long flight first to Baltimore and then flying up the East Coast over New York and then off over the Atlantic to Iceland. The sun was just coming up as we landed and although we were all very tired (Iceland is five hours ahead of Central Time) we were all so excited. There was a gorgeous stained glass sculpture/artwork piece just outside the airport that was absolutely beautiful. It was made out of metal and red, green, yellow and blue glass in the form of a 30' tall slightly curved rainbow coming up from the ground. I really wished that I could have taken a picture then. I took one when we left Iceland yesterday, but it was slightly drizzly so I don't know if it will turn out well enough to show anyone.
Driving around the Reykjanes Peninsula we first went to the lighthouse for breakfast, which consisted of sandwiches (salmon, ham and cheese) and hot chocolate.
ahhh. no time to update the blog. and i didn't even get through the first 45 minutes there. ;o)
